Art is the best way to describe a talent, to show up feelings, knowledge, or to teach people about any topic in life. In this project art is going to be represented in three categories: Individual Identity, Cultural Identity and Historical Time or Place. Everyone has in life something that can describe them or recognized them; it could be anything from any perspective. To be identified it is very important as people with the capacity to grow up and create whatever we wish in this case art , but exist many point of view and perspective as it is in Art. Therefore, it will be interesting to talk about these three examples of identity.
My first example is Individual Identity, this category is very interesting for me because the artwork shows itself what is the message to everyone, and it is a good example in society at the present time. This type of work embodied a unique way of freedom at the same time full of desire, no matter what people could say about it, that is what individual identity is to me. The artwork I am describing is from Nan Goldin where a couple are kissing with truly passion and you can feel the love through the picture. This work of art differs between the others because it expresses unique and personal characteristics about individual society.
Cultural Identity is one of the harder works to find in my opinion; I chose a work of art curious and remarkable. From my perspective, culture and history make a connection because it shows either the way people live or the history through the time, so it is a little hard to make it clear and separate both. The type of work I chose is from Marlene Dumas, I put this work of art in this classification because not only talk about the time when African-American were slaves and they had to suffer but also the painting expresses the way those people lived in the past this artwork is culture & time identity . Culture is not only about food, clothes, music etc. It is also about your people what they may have to overcome during hard times and how they survive.
The last example is Historical Identity; I like what I chose because made me feel proud of being Latina, this artwork is interesting full of knowledge and everyone can learn something from others countries. It is unique because you can talk about the cultural part and also historical. I chose a work of art from Doris Salcedo in this artwork Salcedo expresses the history of her country Colombia, showing the history and the civil war in that time that had a important changed in Colombia's history, the painting is the structure of domestic furniture during the time that people had to live with the minimal domestic stuffs of everything in their homes letting know to people the effect that could cause a war. This work of art is different but also make connection with cultural identity because shows another perspective in life and also can teach people to view life with a different point of view.
In conclusion, these types of art are very popular for their capacity to tell everything without telling anything. In other words the painting catches the attention and the people can feel what the message from the artist is. Individual Identity concerns to different people with different opinions and different ways to live. Cultural Identity expresses changes in society is what we are what we were and it is connected with history and time. Historical Identity is our history, it depend the country but with these artworks we can learn a lot from history and specially if someone does not know anything about their history and culture.
